- October 31 - One year old Harry Potter defeats Lord Voldemort.
- November - Sirius Black is framed for the death of Peter Pettigrew, James and Lily Potter and twelve Muggles, and imprisoned in Azkaban.
- The first war ends with the imprisonment of the remaining Death Eaters.
- In September Dumbledore employs Snape as Potions teacher at Hogwarts.
