Word / Name Origins

Alastor was Greek God who sought revenge on people. To be Moody means to be irritable.

Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody is an eccentric and extremely suspicious wizard who once worked as an Auror for the Ministry of Magic. The nickname Mad-Eye is an accurate description of his appearance, due to his use of a magical eye after he was half-blinded.

The unique magical eye Moody has can look through many surfaces, including walls and desks. It can fully rotate inside his eye socket, even rolling right around to look through the back of his head. According to Moody, it had begun to stick ever since Barty Crouch Jr wore it. The problem can be aided by simply rinsing the eye in water(it is removable).

In Harry's fourth year, Moody was believed to be the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts. As it turned out, the actual teacher was Barty Crouch, Jr. by means of the Polyjuice Potion.

Moody was a member of the first Order of the Phoenix, and in Harry's fifth year, is also a member of the second Order.

In Harry's fifth year Mad eye plays a main role in the safety of Harry's transport to and from the burrow. He was also part of "The Advance Guard" in th e same year. In the last book Moody is killed while helping to escort harry 2 the "safe house" (the burrow).

Alastor Moody is supposedly the only one to have seen a boggarts real form.
