Arithmancy

Arithmancy is the wizarding equivalent to Arithmetic in the Muggle world. It deals with formulas and calculation techniques that only work with magic. Arithmancy is an optional course at Hogwarts, starting in the third year. It is taught by Professor Vector who is a witch.
Arithmancy appears to have a reputation as being one of the harder subjects, as Harry points this out to Hermione in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban upon looking at the textbooks. Hermione, however, says she adores the subject, although she may have responded in this way due to stress or denial (she was taking a huge amount of subjects at the time).
