Ashwinder

An Ashwinder is a thin, pale-grey serpent with glowing red eyes. Ashwinders are created when a magical fire - e.g., from Floo Powder - burns too long unchecked. Ashwinders have a lifespan of about one hour. During that time, they try to lay eggs in a dark corner. When successful in this attempt, the Ashwinder collapses to dust while the eggs give off intense heat, thus igniting the room or chamber - unless the eggs are frozen with a spell. The frozen eggs are of great value for use in love potions or as a cure against ague.
