Beater

A Beater is a position in a Quidditch team. The two Beaters in a team watch the Bludgers in order to protect their teammates. When a Bludger tries to hit them, they beat it with the bat into another direction - as much as possible trying to send them toward a player of the other team.

Ludovic "Ludo" Bagman (Head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports) used to be a Beater for the Wimbourne Wasps.

The Beaters on the Gryffindor Team in Harry's 1st-4th year are Fred and George Weasley, Ron's trouble-making twin brothers. They are both banned, however, in their 5th year, so Andrew Kirk and Jack Sloper take their place.
