The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black is a prominent (though some would say infamous) family in the wizarding world, extending back to the Middle Ages. Nearly all members of the family are known for their attraction to the Dark Arts and pure-blooded ideals (though, there are exceptions).

Black Family Tree
An at least seven centuries old tapestry in the London mansion of the Black family displays the family tree dating back to the Middle Ages. For the International Book Aid charity auction J.K. Rowling sketched a part of the tree covering the second half of the 19th century and the 20th century. The chart shows years of birth and death as given by J.K. Rowling. Some dates are inconsistent, i.e. Pollux Black fathered Walburga at the age of twelve or thirteen.

- Cedrella Weasley nee Black, who married Septimus Weasley (the Weasleys are infamous "blood traitors")
- Alphard Black for supporting his nephew Sirius
