Chizpurfle

A Chizpurfle is a small parasite, about a twentieth of an inch in size, which is attracted to magic. It is crab-like in appearance and has large fangs. Because they are attracted to magic, Chizpurfles have been found in the fur and feathers of Crups and Augureys. The have also been known to enter wizard dwellings and attack magical objects. The more magic they have 'eaten', the harder they are to destroy. Severe infestations are dealt with by the Pest Sub-Division of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. The Ministry of Magic classifies Chizpurfles as harmless. ¹
