Dean Thomas

Dean Thomas is a student in the Gryffindor house of Hogwarts, in the same year as Harry and Ron. He shares the same dormitory with them as does Seamus Finnigan and Neville Longbottom. Dean's Dad is a wizard and Dean's Mom is a muggle. Dean is a member of Dumbledore's Army. He's best friend is Seamus Finnigan and was found to be Ginny's Boyfriend in the Half blood prince and was caught "snogging" Ginny in a secret passage by Ron (Ginnys brother) and Harry. By this happening made Harry realise that he was in love with Ginny and got insanely jealous. Dean also filled in chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch team while Katie Bell was in St Mungos.

According to JKR, Dean was supposed to have a backstory where he learnt that his father was in fact a wizard, but that didn't make it into the books, although there is speculation that it will be included in JKR's planned Harry Potter encyclopedia. In the many speculations about the identity of the Half-Blood Prince this bit of information made Dean one of the most suggested candidates.
