Godric Gryffindor

Godric Gryffindor, along with Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin was one of the founders of Hogwarts, and the founder of Gryffindor house.

Gryffindor was introduced by the Sorting Hat as bold and daring. Consequently, he wanted his students be courageous as well. The Sorting Hat used to belong to Godric, and he also possessed the sword that Harry Potter pulls out of that hat in second year.

Word / Name Origins
The name Godric is a combination of the two Germanic words God "God" and ric "king." See Gryffindor for the entymology of his last name.
