The Order of the Phoenix is a group of wizards, witches and even squibs - who risk their lives to fight Voldemort and his dark wizards. This Order - more exactly, the second foundation - is the subject of the fifth Harry Potter novel.

History
The Order was founded by Albus Dumbledore when Lord Voldemort came to power for the first time. After Voldemort's first defeat, the Order was disbanded, and reformed once again after Harry confirmed that Voldemort had returned.

First incarnation members
These are the original members of the Order, many of whom also served in the second incarnation, when Voldemort rose to power for the second time.
- Sirius Black -- Murdered by cousinBellatrix Lestrange
- Edgar Bones — Murdered by Death Eaters during the first conflict, along with his family.
- Caradoc Dearborn — Went missing during the first war, presumed dead.
- Dedalus Diggle — Murdered by Death Eaters.
- Elphias Doge
- Aberforth Dumbledore
- Albus Dumbledore -- Arranged his death with Severus Snape
- Benjy Fenwick
- Arabella Figg
- Mundungus Fletcher
- Rubeus Hagrid
- Frank and Alice Longbottom — Tortured by Bellatrix Lestrange to the point where they were left insane. Currently in the care of St Mungo's Hospital.
- Remus Lupin -- Killed in the Battle of Hogwarts
- Nymphadora Tonks -- Killed in the Battle of Hogwarts
- Minerva McGonagall
- Marlene McKinnon — Killed along with her family by Death Eaters.
- Dorcas Meadowes — Only one of three Order members known to have been personally killed by Voldemort during the first war.
- Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody -- Killed in the battle trying to move Harry to the "safe zone"
- Peter Pettigrew -- Killed himself for being in harry potter's debt
- Sturgis Podmore
- James and Lily Potter — The other two Order members killed by Voldermort during the first war.
- Fabian Prewett, Gideon Prewett — Both killed during the first conflict. It took five Death Eaters to finish them off.
- Severus Snape -- Killed in person by Lord Voldemort
- Emmeline Vance
