Editing Do's and Don't's
The following is a general list of guidelines for creating and editing articles on HPWiki. We know it's the boring bit, but please read as it's important.
[edit]
Do
- Check that an article exists before creating it. You can do this by Searching for it.
- Follow the Formatting Guide, it has all the neat little code tricks and tips you can use to spruce up your article text.
- Check the reference page for links to our various resources.
- Do name articles using the exact text as used in the books, e.g. Nimbus Two Thousand instead of Nimbus 2000
- Do make use of the main Sandbox to test before making changes, or create one in your personal page.
[edit]
Don't
- Create articles for specific fanfiction authors, or fanartists; instead, please link to their FictionAlley.org author pages, their own websites, or LiveJournals.
- Copy articles wholesale from other wikis - they may (like Wikipedia) use custom templates that we do not, or cannot use. The result means the article would be incorrectly displayed.
- Create articles that are considered off-topic to Harry Potter, such as the latest blockbuster movie, music album or the like. If you must reference something like that in an article, create an external link to their entry on Wikipedia (if they have one) or another site (such as the movie's or music artist's official site), or feel free to post it as a discussion topic in fictionalleypark
- Do not use copyrighted material. Any media submitted to the Harry Potter wiki must:
- Be original material written for the HP Wiki (you can dual license your work as so you can use it elsewhere).
- Be licensed by the original author so that it can be used elsewhere.
- If neither of the above apply, then permission must be gained from the original author.
