Newton (Newt) Artemis Fido Scamander is the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. He was born in 1897 and attended Hogwarts in his youth. He then worked at the Department of Mysteries in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. He spent the first two years of his career in the Office for House-Elf Relocation before moving to the Beast Division. While there he set up the Werewolf Register (1947) and championed the Ban on Experimental Breeding (1965). He also worked extensively for the Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau. In 1979 he received the Order of Merlin, Second Class in Magizoology for his groundbreaking work with magical beasts. In his retirement he moved to Dorset with his wife Porpentina and his three pet Kneazles; Hoppy, Mauler and Milly.
