Philosopher's Stone

The Philosopher's Stone, known as the Sorcerer's Stone in the U.S. version, is a legendary goal of alchemy that was never achieved. In canon it was created by alchemist Nicolas Flamel. The stone is said to turn low metals into gold and create the Elixir of Life. In Harry's first year it was coveted by Lord Voldemort to reach immortality, and later destroyed in a struggle between Harry Potter and Quirrell/Voldemort.
