Potions

Potions is the categorizing term for magical arts that have to do with mixing elixirs, whether healthy or poisonous. Potions must not be confused with the course about herbs (Herbology), although both are closely related to each other.
The Potions teacher at Hogwarts was Professor Snape for the first 5 years of Harry's stay there. In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the Potions Professor is Horace Slughorn, who used to teach at an earlier time as well. He in fact taught Potions to the Marauders, and therefore Severus Snape as well.
The book used in Philosopher's Stone for Potions is Magical Draughts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger.
