Professor Quirrell (first name unknown, speculated to be Quirenius) was the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher in Harry's first year at Hogwarts. Prior to his appointment to DA teacher it is said he had taken a few years off to go to Albania to get some first hand experience with Dark Magic. This is where he supposedly met up with Lord Voldemort. He is known for both his quivering voice (which he used to steer away attention from himself to more "probable" candidates, such as Severus Snape) and his purple turban, which was speculated to contain garlic to repel vampires. In truth, the turban contained the facial embodiment of the damaged Lord Voldemort. Both had conspired to acquire the Philosopher's Stone using the Mirror of Erised in order to give the Dark Lord a separate body. Their plan was thwarted by Harry who, after successfully retrieving the Stone from the Mirror, fought and won a battle against them with Quirrell disintegrated by Harry's touch and the Dark Lord's spirit escaping. Though it is known that Quirrell is no longer living, whereabouts on him have not been disclosed as of yet, and his death was not announced.
