Strengthening Solution

Professor Snape sets Harry's class the Strengthening Solution as one of their tasks in Chapter 17 of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The instructions for this potion are listed in One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi. It requires some maturation in an incomplete state before it can reach full effectiveness, as Snape tells them their potions are in the same state as they left them last lesson.

Little is known about the Strengthening Solution, or exactly what it strengthens. However, Professor Umbridge, comments that she finds Snape's teaching of this potion "questionable" and states that the Ministry would prefer it be removed from the syllabus. Snape's only response is to straighten up slowly and look at her.

One of the ingredients for this potion is salamander blood, but Harry uses pomegranate juice instead. As punishment, Snape sets him an essay on the correct composition of the potion.
