Sword of Gryffindor
From Hpwiki
The Sword of Gryffindor first appears in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. It is kept in a case in Dumbledore's office, and is repeatedly described as silver, with a ruby-encrusted hilt. It is one of two Gryffindor relics Harry encounters in his years at Hogwarts, the other being the Sorting Hat.
In Chamber of Secrets, Harry pulls the sword out of the Sorting Hat and uses it to slay the Basilisk. Later, Dumbledore tells him that only a true Gryffindor could pull the sword out of the hat.
The sword appears again in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This time, Dumbledore leaves the sword to Harry in his will, although the Ministry refuses to give Harry the sword, claiming that it is a historical artifact and not a possession Dumbledore was allowed to give. However, it is revealed that the sword in the Ministry's hands (and the one seized by Voldemort) is a fake. The real one remained in the possession of Severus Snape, who later plants it for Harry to find. Ron uses the sword to destroy Slytherin's locket, and Harry exchanges the sword for Griphook's help in retrieving Hufflepuff's cup. However, Neville manages to pull the sword from the Sorting Hat during the Battle of Hogwarts and uses it to behead Nagini.
