Word / Name Origins
Sibylle (note the switched 'i' and 'y') in the Greek mythology is a woman who, sometimes, starts to spurt out predictions and oracles without being asked by anybody. Typically, she predicts bad luck.

Sybill Patricia1 Trelawney is the Divination teacher at Hogwarts, a very thin witch that rarely leaves her rooms in the North Tower. She is a great-great-granddaughter of the celebrated Seer Cassandra Trelawney. She is thought to be a fraud by Harry, Ron, and Hermione, who thinks everything she teaches is just rubbish. Harry always receives death predictions from her whether it be tea leaves or palmistry.

During Harry's fifth year, Trelawney is sacked by High Inquisitor Dolores Umbridge, but is invited by Dumbledore to remain at Hogwarts.

She resumes teaching the following year, but has to alternate years with Firenze, which she is not happy about.

Trelawney is a true Seer, but her ability only works some of the time. To date, she has made two true predictions. One just prior to Harry's birth which she made to Dumbledore himself, which is why he appointed her at Hogwarts, and one during Harry's third year.
