Talk:Hermione Granger
From Hpwiki
Maybe I'm a total softy, but I think this page is a little tough on Hermione. In particular, I'm looking at the second paragraph under the "Personality" heading -- while she might not be the picture of confidence and self-control, I feel it is slightly harsh to say that Hermione is "quite emotionally weak" and "not as quick-witted as Harry." We have seen Hermione take the voice of the hero's conscience on multiple occasions, and in my opinion, her actions in PS (e.g., the potions in "Through the Trapdoor"), PoA (e.g., saving Sirius/Buckbeak using the Time Turner), and OotP (e.g., getting rid of Umbridge, going to the DoM) demonstrate that her intelligence extends beyond book-smarts. (OK, I'll hand it to you that she does act like a bit of a ditz in HBP, but most evidence is to the contrary.) Personally, I would like to make some modifications to this description, but first I wanted to know whether the author would be willing to defend their characterization as it stands. Perhaps I am giving Hermione more credit than she deserves! Many thanks. -- The Dark Muggle 00:08, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
And you know what? Maybe I love Hermione's little inconsistencies too much and have started splashing them all over the page as I see fit, ignoring how wonderful Hermione is as a person! And I mean that! Go ahead and edit, and if I see something I find wrong, I'll certainly point it out and we can discuss how to best bring Hermione across and give her the amount of credit she deserves! At the moment the page states that Hermione punched Draco in PoA, while this is definitely what happened in the movie I'm pretty sure that in the book it was only a slap, while this may not seem as cool she did later manage to overpower Sirius Black, although it's never specifically stated how, (I always assumed she kneed him in the groin).--Teletran 17:00, 7 August 2007 (EDT)
Ok I just finished rereading POA and I have no idea where I got that last bit from, she did kick Sirius (probably in the ribs) but because he was already on the floor injured so the force required to stop him was much less than I thought and it gives her a much better angle of attack. So it was just my memory playing tricks on me which wouldn't have mattered if I hadn't just made a public statement about what I thought had happened so that's embarrassing but never mind the main point is that Hermione slapped Draco then pulled her wand on him but didn't use it, let's face it she fights like a girl.--Teletran 07:17, 30 August 2007 (EDT)
