Transfiguration

Transfiguration is the art of transforming one thing into another. The simplest type is transforming an object into a different kind of object typically an animal. More advanced types of transfiguration are objects into creatures and self-transfiguration. For example, the Transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts, Minerva McGonagall, can change into a cat. This ability confers her with the title Animagus. There are cases of forced human Transfiguration such as that of the werewolf. Professor McGonagall takes the subject very seriously and warns all students "Transfiguration is some of the most complex and dangerous magic you will learn at Hogwarts".
