Deathly Hallows?

  • What became of the Deathly Hallows, did Harry keep the Elder Wand, did he go and find the Resurrection Stone and bring his family back to life, what did he do with the Invisibility Cloak?
    • On page 599 of the UK edition of Deathly Hallows, Harry is talking to Dumbledore's portrait and he says that dropped the Stone in the Forest and that hes not going to go looking for it again. He then tells the portrait that hes going to keep the Invisibility Cloak. Harry then says he doesnt want the Elder wand, fixes his own wand and then he says he is going to put the wand back where it came from (I presume that would be in Dumbledore's tomb) - Jeka1103

How Did Snape Know?

  • We wonder all through the book how Snape knew the Order's real plans to transport Harry from Privet Drive, and only at the end do we discover that it was Dumbledore's painting that told him. Still, how did the painting know?
    • We're talking about Snape and the Magical world here, apparently this can be achieved easily by some Veritaserum and Obliviate the Memory Charm, possibly on Mundungus. Ichitchy
    • If you remember, at the end you find out that it was in fact Snape that planted the plan in Mundungus's mind in the first place, on Dumbledore's painting's orders. He told Voldemort part of the plan so as to appear to be on his side, but didnt tel him everything because he was really against him. Riflebore
    • Snape gave the order to Mundungus on Dumbledore's painting's orders by Confunding him. --pottergrl4eva

Griphook/Neville + The Sword

  • Where did Neville get Gryffindors sword when he kills Nagini in the final chapter, if Griphook escaped with it in Gringotts?
    • The sword can be pulled out of the Sorting Hat when a Gryffindor is in dire need of it, just as Harry did in CoS. Apparently there is some magic that connects Godric's sword with his hat that Griphook cannot control. Remember, it is emphasized that wizards can do magic that goblins cannot. - Jello
    • In addition to the above, I'd like to point out that Harry never GAVE the sword to Griphook. While he agreed to hand it over after the Gringotts job, during the crises Griphook took it. Since there was no physical "handing over", the sword may assume that it belongs to Harry (or Hogwarts), who needed Neville to have it. -Ran-san
    • Update: In an interciew with Meredith Vieira, Rowling was asked this very question, and the answer was “Now we can reveal that Griphook was wrong. The sword was truly Gryffindor’s and he didn’t steal it … Its first allegiance always was to a worthy Gryffindor, and it was going to come back when someone really, really needed it. And it came back to Neville.” - Ran-san

What about Harry's immediate family?

  • We still do not know about Harry's immediate family - what did James and Lily do for a living, what about Harry's grandparents, where did they get their family fortune?
    • The world may never know. -Ran-san
    • JK answered this in an interview: James was an Auror (sp?), as was Lily. She also said that Harry and Ron both became Aurors (not stated in the epilog) and that they reinvented the department (and that Harry was the head Auror and Ron was his number 2 - as always). Hermy became a head of the Illegal Magic Department (or something like that). Basically she's a lawyer (which she hated during the books). She also stated that the Department of Magic is no longer a bad place to be, but rather the hight of the wizard world after the reforms of the trio. She didn't say anything about Ginny or George (how is he without his brother? I can't believe they killed Fred!).
    • Actually, she said that Lily, James, and Sirius were all full time Order members and that James used his money to support Lily. Said in an interview.
    • Actually, Ginny became a celebrated player for the Holyhead Harpies, and then retired to take care of her family and eventually become the Senior Quidditch correspondent at the Daily Prophet. George never really recovered from the loss of his brother, but continued with Weasley Wizard Wheezes.
    • George married Angelina Johnson and they named their son Fred after his deceased twin.Maya
    • The Potters were one of the oldest wizarding families (like the Malfoys), and their fortune was passed down through the years.

What was Petunia going to say?

  • What was Petunia almost going to tell Harry as she was leaving left Privet Drive?
    • "You Are Not Alone" - Just kidding. What was going through Petunia's mind, as well as what happened to the Dursleys between Chapter Three and the Epilogue will never be know unless J.K. Rowling writes more books or explains in interviews. -Ran-san
    • I think she was going to say "Good Luck", but straining to live a 'normal' life hardened her and she couldn't say it. She was tempted to say it because she was really jealous of Lily and Harry. Leemorrison 10:12, 5 August 2007 (EDT)
    • I have experienced magical powers before - J.K mentions in an interview.
    • JKR said at her reading in New York on the 19th of October that Petunia wanted to tell Harry, "I know what you're up against and I hope it turns out okay." - Jeka1103]

Dudley Dursley

  • What happened to Dudley?
    • See above. -Ran-san
    • J.K.R. doesn't say. She basicly focused on Harry's world. ~Maya
    • Jo says on her website under the Extra Stuff section: "A couple of people have told me that they hoped to see Dudley at King’s Cross in the Epilogue, accompanying a wizarding child. I must admit that it did occur to me to do that very thing, but a short period of reflection convinced me that any latent wizarding genes would never survive contact with Uncle Vernon’s DNA, so I didn’t do it. However, I know that after Dudley’s brave attempt at reconciliation at the start of Deathly Hallows, the two cousins would have remained on ‘Christmas Card’ terms for the rest of their lives, and that Harry would have taken his family to visit Dudley’s when they were in the neighbourhood (occasions dreaded by James, Albus and Lily)."

Who was the person who was supposed to come into magic late in life?

  • This was something mentioned by JK Rowling as being in Deathly Hallows, but it appears that it wasn't really answered - at least not obviously. Was this Dudley thanking Harry as he left? Was it to do with Petunia writing to Dumbledore to be able to go to Hogwarts? This was as Lily was going, and Petunia was the older sister, so she would have been older than 11 years old if she went.
    • I am almost positive it is Petunia, as Lily and Snape both said the letter from Dumbledore had a very "nice" reply. I am thinking this was a yes from Dumbledore, as Lily and Petunia were arguing at King's Cross about Petunia going. - Lilgymnastgal
    • Rowling revealed in the Live Chat on Monday, July 30, 2007 that she "changed her mind" about this idea while writing the third book, so there never was someone who came into magic late in life. - JJMG

The trio's education

  • How do Harry, Ron, Hermione manage their adult lives if they didn't finish their education at Hogwarts?
    • As Fred and George Showed us in "Order of the Phoenix", years after the OWLs are optional. OWLS are the wizard equivilent of GCSEs or a High School Diploma, while NEWTs are more like A-Levels or a College degree. While not getting their NEWTs may close some doors, like Auror, there's still many careers available that do not require NEWT levels, like Quiddich. Also, with all the commotion that occured in both Hogwarts in the Ministry in Book Seven, NEWT instructors may be hard to come by and the new miinistry by thow out the whole years cirriculum as being Dark Wizard biased, making it possible for Harry, Hermione, and Ron either reattend for a final quiet year, or get special dispensation to study for NEWTs. -Ran-san, et al
    • On JKR's site, October '07, Harry is Wizard of the Month, and it says there that he became an Auror at age 17, which would have been within two months of the defeat of Voldy. It's a safe guess that he started his advanced education at that point (remember McGonagall said there would be three years of advanced courses after his NEWTs) and started working as an Auror when he was 20. Implication is that he didn't need his NEWTs, though, or that his helping Voldy off himself is equivalent to a set of NEWTs... Chazz
    • JK Rowling says in her interview with the PotterCast people that Hermione went back to Hogwarts to graduate and Harry and Ron went stright to the Auror departnment because the the Minister of Magic Kingsley was quite eagar to have anyone who helped with the war on his side. And besides, how could they refuse Harry Potter, the boy who defeat and outsmarted Voldy so many times, a career as an auror? If you wanna have a listen to the interview go to www.pottercast.com - Jeka1103

Goblins

  • How do they fit back into the WW once the drama dies down?
    • Same as before, I'm afraid. There wasn't much to go on for increasing Goblin Rights. House Elf Rights, on the other hand, may change greatly if Harry or Hermione have anything to say about it. -Ran-san
    • Hermione may have campaigned to help them, as she campaigned for house-elves "and their ilk". Leemorrison 10:17, 5 August 2007 (EDT)

Hermione's family

  • Do they get their memories back and if they find out what Hermione did, are they super-mad at her?
    • Hermione went back to Australia and brought them home right away. That much we know. Leemorrison 10:13, 5 August 2007 (EDT)

What happened to the Dursleys?

  • What happened to them after they left Privet Drive? Were they attacked as well? Did they make it to safety?
    • See my answer to "What was Petunia going to say?" above. -Ran-san

Did Harry become an Auror or not?

  • Harry expressed an interest in becoming an Auror when he was choosing a career with McGonagall. Did he follow this path, or did he settle for interviews and autographs?
    • Part of the answer to this falls back on the question "The Trio's Education", above. The requirement for Auror was NEWTs in many categories, inlcuding Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, just to name a couple. While Harry could still take his D.A.D.A NEWTs and still pass with flying colours (we're pretty sure, anyway), his potions are dismal (without the help of the Half-Blood Price's Book), and he'd need to catch up on his other classes to get NEWTs. However, if they were going to make an exception for anyone, it'd be for the Man Who Killed Voldemort, wouldn't it? -Ran-san
    • JK Rowling revealed in an interview that Harry, as well as Ron, became Aurors in the Ministry of Magic. Harry also achieved the status of Head of the Auror Department. - Dark revelation
    • Rowling contradicted herself in the Live Chat on July 30, 2007 about Ron: instead of being an Auror, she said in the chat that he joins George in the Joke Shop. - JJMG

  • The above is actually not true. Rowling never said that Ron was running the shop. She said that George continued the shop with Ron's help. That can mean a lot of things. It could have been financial backing, emotional support, or Ron could simply be coming in from time to time. Plus, as we know from Order of the Phoenix, The Ministry of Magic started buying the twins' products in order to thwart dark magic. As an Auror, Ron could have been a large help there.

Hermione's Job?

    • Hermione actually did both of these jobs, so there is no need to have a debate.

Fawkes?

  • What happened to Fawkes when Dumbledore died? Did someone get the phoenix as part of Dumbledores will?
    • After Dumbledore died. Fawkes sang a lament for hours, then left of his own accord (HBP, pg. 632 US). Where he went we do not know, but Harry never saw him again. - Ran-san
    • Phoenixes are non transferable. Fawkes left and never came back- Harry knew something had to leave Hogwarts for good, and it was Fawkes. Leemorrison 10:16, 5 August 2007 (EDT)

George Weasley?

  • What happened to George and the joke shop when Fred died?
    • Since neither were married and they were partners, I assume George took over as sole propriator. However, George's sense of humor may had worn thin with the loss of his twin sibling, and may have looked for something else to do with his life. - Ran-san
    • Rowling revealed the Live Chat on July 30, 2007 that Ron joined George in the Joke Shop. - JJMG
    • Rowling said that Ron HELPED OUT in the joke shop. She said he worked as an Auror. -pottergrl4eva
    • JKR also said in the live chat that George had a son and named him fred, so that must mean he got married as well.
    • I have recently read up and what happened to everyone after DH, and George got married to Angelina Johnson after a few years grieving. He never truly got over Fred's death, as he named his first child after him. Angelina and Georges' second child was named Roxanne. -Harry Potter Geek

Harry's Blood

  • What would Dumbledore have done if Voldemort had never used Harry's Blood to resurrect himself? (He must have known at least by the end of Chamber of Secrets that Harry was a Horcrux; until Voldemort used Harry's blood at the end of Goblet, had he really been just "fattening Harry like a pig for the slaughter" as Snape accuses him? The "gleam of triumph" in Dumbledore's eyes at the end of Goblet would indicate that Dumbledore now knew that Harry could defeat Voldemort without having to die himself; but Dumbledore could not have counted on that happening.)
  • If anything, Dumbledore would have encouraged Harry to go after Voldemort's horcruxes even more, since Voldemort wasn't protected by the ancient magic Harry had. Leemorrison 12:37, 5 September 2007 (EDT)

Dumbledore's Truthfulness

  • Wasn't Dumbledore lying in HBP when he corrected Harry's guess that there were seven horcruxes?
    • It was Voldemort who made a mistake, and made eight Horcruxes when he cursed Harry. Leemorrison 10:08, 5 August 2007 (EDT)
    • Wait, that's wrong. He accidentally split his soul into eight PIECES, which meant he had SEVEN horcruxes. He made a mistake. Dumbledore wasn't lying- he made a mistake too. Leemorrison 10:15, 5 August 2007 (EDT)
    • Dumbledore was right, Voldemort did made 7 horcruxes, the one that was inside him dosent count because he didnt made it... And-- I think he was trying not to make harry nervous or obligated to do anything he didnt whant to do.
  • Also -- how can Dumbledore's speech in HBP about Harry having free choice regardless of the prophecy difficult to square with Harry's status as a horcrux?
    • Harry didn't HAVE to sacrifice himself, he wanted to, because he's an awesome person like that. :-) Anyway, Trewlany didn't know Voldemort had Horcruxes (the only people who did at the time was Voldy and probably Dumbledore). The prophecy was concerned with the bit of Voldy's soul they knew. -pottergrl4eva
    • The prophecy actually could concern the bit of Voldemort's soul in Harry, as well as Harry's blood in Voldemort. While Trelawney herself did not know these things, her gift in Divination allowed her to make the prophecy. Jo says herself that she and Trelawney worded the prophecy "extremely carefully" so as not go give anything away and to make it "ambiguous." Until Jo further clarifies the meaning, readers are free to interpret "neither can live while the other survives."

The Flayed Child

  • What was the flayed child at King's Cross? The maimed remnant of Voldemort's soul residing in his resurrected body? The fragment of soul that had been attached to Harry? The combination of all the parts of Voldemort's soul that had been separated from the "main" part?
    • Yes, JK had revealed in the webchat she recently had that Voldemort is now in the limbo world Harry visited when Voldemort 'killed' him in the Forest. He IS the flayed child now, which means that it must have been the little remaining soul he had. Leemorrison 10:10, 5 August 2007 (EDT)

The Uncursed Horcruxes

  • The ring and the locket were both well-protected: the former with a "terrible curse" and the latter with the lake of Inferi and the Potion. Why weren't the cup and the diadem also protected with some sort of curse?
    • The Hufflepuff Cup was cursed. If you read the Deathly Hallows (DH), you would have read that the cup was in Bellatrix's vault at Gringotts. Bellatrix cursed every item in her vault, including the cup, to multiply the item and burn the theif. The Ravenclaw Diadem was most likely cursed at one time, but over the years at Hogwarts, the curse may have vanished. Also, the diadem was broke when Harry found it in the DH, and in the Room of Requirement. - Moebious
    • Actually, the diadem was not broken when Harry found it in the Room of Requirment. If you read that part again, you'll notice that it breaks before the trio's eyes. -pottergrl4eva
    • The diadem was not cursed when Harry first lays his hands on it -- completely in tact during his sixth year when he moves it to help mark his potion book's location. It can be debated that Harry did not touch it -- that it was already sitting on the wig, and he only touched the wig. But like the locket, Voldemort may have believed that it didn't need a curse on it to protect it; his placement of it was the protection (in a room he very mistakenly believed was his discovery alone).
    • Actually, the dupilcation curse was a Gringott's Curse against thieves, and not the Cup itself. I speculate that while each Horcrux held a part of Voldemort's soul, the Book, ring, and locket held larger "chunks" as it were, which made them intelligent, and had more of a "curse"-like effect. - Ran-san
    • Did it 'need' a curse? After all, Gringotts was apparently impenetrable, and Voldemort has been known to make mistakes by putting things in places only he thought he knew about/could get in to.Leemorrison 09:49, 3 August 2007 (EDT)
    • The ring and the locket were both well-protected because that was something that was important to HIM--- wich means that the other things were no easly to catch because there was always going to be someone who wnated them because of its value..And-- of course it need a curse, I mean Gringotss its safe and all but the intention was that nobody would reach it and if Harry got in means that it did need a course, but we all know Voldemort dosent think beyond things so I blame him for beeing so stupid..User:--est

What happening to Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place & Kreacher?

  • Kreacher told them he would be waiting with a pie. They thought Snape would go into Grimmauld Place and it would be unsafe. But after the Battle of Hogwarts did Harry go back there? Was Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place the place he had raised his family? What happened to Kreacher and did he bake a new pie for them?
    • I should hope that Harry was never made or persuaded to go there ever again. It would recollect too many memories of Sirius. And as for raising his family there- that's laughable. Plus Harry learned to have more respect for House-elves, so it's likely Harry would have kept Kreacher away from such a terrible place. Kreacher may have become Harry's personal House-elf, or he may have decided to leave him at Hogwarts. And as for the final question...I hope he did! Leemorrison 14:11, 18 August 2007 (EDT)

Witches and Wizards Education?

  • What i thought was, what happened to normal education? I mean what happened to learning about maths, science, english and all the other subjects we learn in school? They can't be very clever, only having learned maths, science and english untill they were 11!
    • But they did cover those subjects -- Arithmancy: the study of numbers; English: You don't think having to read 6 text books a term is learning english?. Plus all the books in the Library that they have to read for research; Science: Herbology; the study of plants, Care of Magical Creature's the study of magical being's, Transfiguration; the study of changing one thing into another, Potions; the study of mixing two or more chemicals to make a third more useful chemical, Astronomy; the study of the stars.
    • The simple reason is that wizard's dont need to learn these subjects. They can simply learn spells. Leemorrison 12:34, 5 September 2007 (EDT)
    • Jo has said in a 2007 interview with Time magazine that wizards are homeschooled by their parents before they attend Hogwarts. Quote: "Most are homeschooled, because they aren't really able to control their powers so it would be too dangerous to let them out and about."

Harry Dying To Kill Voldemort ...

  • According to Dumbledore it is important for Voldemort to kill Harry (once the Horcruxes are gone). How does that work because even if the last one is gone doesn't someone still have to kill Voldemort? He wouldn't just die then would he?
    • Well no. Harry had to die so the horcrux inside him could die, then harry would come back and be able to kill voldemort because there isn't any horcruxes left. -honeyandmustard
    • Yes, someone does still have to kill Voldy; they can't just go on with a repressive, evil, abusive ruler who cares only for power and himself, could they? He wouldn't die then because there is the last bit of soul; the one inside his current body. -pottergrl4eva

Ginny's Job

  • What does Ginny do? I doubt she'd be happy as a house wife

Ginny became a celebrated player for the Holyhead Harpies, and then retired to take care of her family and eventually become the Senior Quidditch correspondent at the Daily Prophet.

Harry Coming Back

  • I get that because harry died, the horcruxe died too, but how/why did harry not die himself?
To my understanding, a Horcrux is a part of a soul. When someone is killed, their soul leaves their body. However, when Harry died, only 1 soul had to leave the body, which in turn was the part of Voldemort's soul that was in him. Unless you mean why didn't Voldemort figure out that Harry was still alive when he came back, and that's because Malfoy's mother betrayed Voldemort in order to get info on if Malfoy was safe, and lied to him when Voldemort asked if he was dead. Myzou 11:23, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
    • It is because of the fact voldy used harrys blood. Pg. 708-709 (US). Ch 35. I do not know the page numbers for the UK.

wasn't voldemort the best person at reading minds and telling if some one was telling a lie.

  • Okay. So what happened was that there are two souls in Harry's body. Voldemort's and Harry's. When Harry died, ONE soul left the body. That just happened to be Voldy's. Harry's stayed in there.
    • Actually, Voldy's bit of soul had to leave the body because Harry's bit of soul was tied to life by the blood Voldy used when he was regenerated (Goblet of Fire). -pottergrl4eva

Percy

  • What happend to percy? I know he was "reciting broom stick regulations", but did he become some kinda of head of some department?
    • Im guessing that he became something more importante, because I dont think there was anyone else..
      • What happened to Percy is what happened in the book. We saw that he changed and came back onto the side of the Order. He may still work under the newer, reformed Minstry. Leemorrison 20:33, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
    • I don't know if Percy ever got a good Ministry position, but I do know he married an Audrey and had two girls, Molly and Lucy. I saw a copy of a family tree that JKR drew up herself. -Harry Potter Geek
    • I remember reading somewhere that when Kingsley got elected (chosen) for Minister of Magic, Percy got a very high position in the Ministry. But the fact about Audrey, Molly and Lucy is definetly true.

Fidelius Charm around Shell Cottage

  • In the Malfoy Manor chapter of DH, Ron tells Dobby the location of Shell Cottage (the house of Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour). But if the Fidelius Charm said that Bill was the official Secret Keeper, how come Ron was able to tell Dobby the location?
    • Isn't that the same thing that happened with Grimmald Place? Dumbledore was the secret keeper of that place. If the Secret keeper so wishes to divulge the information, he/she can. Harry read from a piece of paper and then the place appeared, and then the paper was burned. (OTTP). Bill probably told the whole family where he and Fleur were going to be staying at, and when the time came he told them how to find him.
    • I think that might have been a mistake in the book; those happen quite a bit. For example, Harry and Hermione wait to get Norbert at midnight on Wednesday in SS/PS, but that means they would have to be skipping Astronomy, which also happens at midnight on Wednesday. -pottergrl4eva
    • Ron was able to tell Dobby because when the official secret keeper tells someone else, that person also becomes a secret keeper for the location the Fidelius Charm has been performed on-Iluvme2099

What did the muggle boys do to Ariana that was so horrible?

  • In the book,Aberforth tells Harry, Ron, and Hermoine that some muggle boys did something to Ariana to make her... insane or whatever she became. What did they do?
    • I'm inclined to believe that they beat her, but no official statement has been made. -Quixoticies.
