After several months of dismissing Harry Potter as "just another unrealistic fantasy book," The Dark Muggle first read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in October 1999. Her dangerous obsession, however, did not take off until January 2003 when she re-read the series. She'd anticipated that the story would be boring the second time around once the element of suspense had been lost, but of course, this could not have been less the case.
In anticipation of the June 21, 2003 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix release, she went to the Internet to search for the Mary GrandPré cover art for Book Five and accidentally discovered The Harry Potter Lexicon, MuggleNet, and the international Harry Potter scene in general. Since March 2004, The Dark Muggle has made her "Internet home" at Veritaserum, commenting on the site's Book Six theories page and later joining and moderating the forums. She and her sister also designed and operated their own Harry Potter site for two years, which recently closed in December 2006, though most of their content is now posted elsewhere on the Internet. On August 1, 2006, she saw JK Rowling speak at Radio City in New York, the highlight of her entire experience with the fandom.
Whether The Dark Muggle has a life outside Harry Potter is dubious, but so far as a Beyond The Fandom actually exists, she is an eighteen-year-old geology student living in the United States, enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors, and since October 2006, has also been an avid Tolkien reader.
