Vampire

A vampire is a blood-sucking non-human in human shape. Vampires do not die like ordinary people, that's why they are also called 'un-dead'. A normal human becomes a vampire after being bitten by another vampire. It is not quite clear whether this happens always or only if the biting vampire intends to provide this result. Vampires avoid garlic and religious symbols (i.e., a cross). However, these things are only good enough to protect against them. There are only two methods to kill a vampire:

• Sunlight
• A piece of wood through their heart

Vampires are feared in the wizarding world as much as in the Muggles world. They are known in most cultures across the world.

Harry only encounters one vampire, and this is at one of Slughorn's parties. The vampire is being closely monitored by his captor but longs to bite.
