It, along with Light and Extinguish are probably the first Charms a first-year student at Hogwarts learns.
Tought to them around on Halloween their first year by Professor Flitwick, the charm is used successfully latyer that same day by Ron Weasley in fight in with a troll in the girl's bathroom.
It was also the subject of one of the questions during theoretical Charms OWLs.
