Winky

Winky is a female house-elf in the household of Barty Crouch. She is first encountered by Harry, Hermione and the Weasleys at the Quidditch World Cup, saving a seat for her master. She is described as a "tiny creature" with "enormous brown eyes and a nose the exact size and shape of a large tomato" and "a teeny, quivering squeak of a voice." She is very afraid of heights.

Her main task was to keep an eye on Barty Crouch, Jr.. However, at the Quidditch World Cup she is ordered to stay with Crouch Jr, but she brings him away from their tent and away from the attacking Death Eaters. This causes Crouch Jr. to get his hands on Harry's wand, cast the Dark Mark, and escape to join his master, Voldemort. Thus, Winky was dismissed by Crouch Sr., for embarrassing him in front of the Ministry workers, but mainly for disobeying his orders and allowing Crouch Jr. to escape.

After being given clothes by Crouch Sr., Winky is persuaded by Dobby to find work at Hogwarts where she takes to drinking Butterbeer, which has strong effects on House Elves.
