Salazar Slytherin

Salazar Slytherin, along with Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff and Rowena Ravenclaw, was one of the founders of Hogwarts, and the founder of Slytherin house.

The Sorting Hat characterizes him as shrewd and cunning, "And power-hungry Slytherin | Loved those of great ambition". Salazar was a Parselmouth and created the Chamber of Secrets. He left Hogwarts in a quarrel over whether to allow Muggleborns into Hogwarts,which he was strongly against. He also owned a locket that was later turned into a horcrux by Tom Marvelo Riddle/Voldemort, the last descendant of Slyhterin, a parselmouth, and the one who opened the chamber of secrets that Slytherin made and released the Basilisk to kill those who Slytherin thought were "unworthy to study magic."
